There is nothing better than the sweet aroma of cinnamon wafting through the air, especially in the winter months. It’s the smell of hot cider simmering on the stove, bubbling apple pie, cinnamon buns in the oven, baked spiced squash or a hot cup of milky chai. There’s something about the spicy, yet sweet, smell of cinnamon that eases the mind, warms the heart and gives us a cozy sense of welcome-ness and home.
Here’s my favourite way to create a wonderful aroma at home. It’s as easy as lighting a scented candle, and costs much less!
Do-It-Yourself Cinnamon Potpourri
Heat a small pot with about a cup of water and about a tablespoon of ground cinnamon (or a cinnamon stick) on low heat. You can use as much or as little cinnamon/water as you like. In minutes, the wondrous smell of cinnamon will fill your home. **Keep an eye on the stove! Don’t forget about it! It just needs to be warm, not boiling.** Keep adding water as needed. Lasts a long time!
One of my favourite things about cooking is smelling the wonderful aromas I create. Cinnamon is one of my favourite cooking smells. It has been said that the smell of cinnamon can stir the appetite, produce a feeling of joy and safety, warm the senses and help with bettering focus/concentration.
This is perfect for when you’re having guests over! It banishes any odours and replaces them with a warm, homey fragrance.
I love this, and I hope you do too! Inhale…exhale…relax! 🙂 xo
